A 6-nil away win including a Tom Ellwood hat-trick sees Cliffe FC Reserves beat Bishop Wilton Reserves in a dominant team performance.
Malcolm Bryce writes…

Cliffe FC 2ndXI 6 - 0 Bishop Wilton Reserves 17Nov12

“That was an excellent result but the performance was even more pleasing. That result had been coming for the last few week, we moved the ball exceptionally well and got our rewards. We need to use this result as the spring board for our season now and really kick on from here. Absolutely delighted with the lads today, they deserve great credit for the performance.”

Once again, all eyes were on the Reserve team as the First team’s fixture away to Strensall was called off due to waterlogging. Tom Ellwood opened scoring, pouncing on a defensive error to break one-on-one with the ‘keeper and slot the ball into the net, 0-1. Rich Taylor doubled Cliffe’s lead with a quality placed effort from outside the box, 0-2. Cliffe with a two goal lead then began to dominate further and soon the Horner brothers were in on the action before half-time, first Nathan scored a penalty after a handball, 0-3, then Nigel made it 0-4 scoring inside the area, HT.

The scoring continued early in the second half, Ellwood heading his second of the game with a glancing header to make it 0-5. The ball broke in the box and Ellwood smashed the ball home to complete his hat-trick and make the score 0-6. From this point on the Bishop Wilton ‘keeper became unbeatable, Wilton’s #1 making some fantastic saves to keep the score at six after many of the Cliffe ranks’ attempts – at the other end Cliffe ‘keeper Ally Harris became the proverbial virtual spectator as he had little to deal with in terms of Wilton’s threat. 0-6 FT.

With this win, Cliffe FC Reserves move themselves out of the bottom two and neutralise their goal difference in York League Reserve ‘D’ Section. Next Saturday, Cliffe FC Reserves have yet another fixture-less week whilst the First team return to cup action, away to Crayke Reserves in the York FA Junior Cup, 2pm kick-off.
