York RI 4-0 Cliffe FC XI
HT: 2-0.
SATURDAY was the start of pre-season fixtures for Cliffe FC, a large squad was taken to York College’s 3G facility to face York RI.
Conditions were very warm and humid as the rubber in the 3G surface seemed to make the heat feel even hotter than it was, water breaks needed midway through each half.
Cliffe’s young side featured no less than 5 trialists, and York RI should a little more chemistry than Cliffe to have two goals scored in each half to win 4-0 – the Premier Division outfit clearly closer to full-tilt as their season starts in just under 3 weeks compared to the 7/8 weeks Cliffe FC have left to make necessary improvements for their competitive start.
A good start against a strong team. Encouraging signs, Cliffe can work towards getting results to match performances in the coming weeks.
Next weekend, friendlies continue – Malt Shovel on Saturday. A trip to Skipton for Cliffe FC Sunday’s first outing this pre-season.
