Cliffe FC | 15th & 16th October 2016 | FIRST – RESERVES – SUNDAY

Cliffe FC suffer a tough weekend on the road, first team losing at York St John Uni 5-0, a lack of recognised goalkeeper haunts the Reserves away at York RI in a 10-1 reversal, and an early red-card sees York Nomads score freely against Sunday team in 15-0 drubbing.

Saturday 15th October 2016
York Minster Engineering League – Division One
HT: 3-0
FT: York St John University 5 – 0 Cliffe FC

Saturday’s First Team defeat against York St John University on the 3G pitch, another bump in the road to rebuild, St John’s had a 3-0 lead at the break – their main man Matt Thompson scoring a first half hat-trick – two goals were added after half-time to complete a 5-0 scoreline. From a Cliffe perspective, not much to report in a poor away day – Matty Holmes performed well when asked to step into centre-back position, and once again the busiest man on the pitch in the shape of skipper Ally Harris was awarded man-of-the-match, pulling off an impressive set of saves during the match – Holmes pushing Harris close to the MOTM award.

Malcolm Bryce, with the help of his committee and senior players, will continue to work hard to rebuild Cliffe’s first team, and will continue to actively search for some experience and quality to add-in to go with the development potential of the current squad – a much sought after commodity in local football. Next weekend it’s the in-form Harrison Signs away, no easy games in Division 1.

Sunday 15th October 2016
York Minster Engineering League – Reserve C
HT: 9-0
FT: York RI Reserves 10 – 1 Cliffe FC Reserves

A heavy defeat handed out to Cliffe FC Reserves, with late dropouts and no recognised goalkeeper making Cliffe suffer with a bare 11. Whilst the scoreline read 9-0 at the break, Cliffe rallied second half, Kieran Gallagher scoring what would be Cliffe FC’s only goal of the weekend, as Reserves drew the second half 1-1, the final scoreline reading 10-1. Sam Easthill earn man-of-the-match, playing the second half in net.

Next weekend, Cliffe FC Reserves are at home to Civil Service Reserves – an opportunity to get going again.

Sunday 16th October 2016
York Sunday Morning League – Division 1
FT: York Nomads 15 – 0 Cliffe FC Sunday

Life in the top division on a Sunday morning is tough, and a heavy defeat to last season’s title contenders York Nomads was handed out on a wet and rainy morning. Nomads opened scoring on the quarter hour mark, as Cliffe competed well enough to make a game of it – the referee then reduced Cliffe to 10-men with two quick (and avoidable) yellow cards to kill any chance of Cliffe staying competitive in the match, which then saw Nomads run riot. Ally Harris on-form once more in between the sticks, pulling off saves another keeper wouldn’t even attempt to make, never mind actually save – Nomads ‘keeper, a virtual spectator, becoming a fan of Harris’ saves. Harris was MOTM, but the in-form Andy Edwards tireless effort and endeavour ran him close.

Goole-based NUR visit Oxen Lane, as Cliffe FC Sundays must pick themselves up to go again next weekend.
