In Cliffe FC's Sunday Side's first ever official game, they faced Barlby FC in a pre-season friendly at Selby Town Stadium. With Aaron Tiplady grabbing a hat-trick and Ash Lattimore and Matt Walker also scoring, Cliffe FC won 5-1.

He died in the late 1980s and was a supporter of both Hemingbrough Saturday side and the then, Cliffe Sunday side and Friday evening saw the reviving of the trophy tie after a gap of several years.
